Economies worldwide and especially in developing countries such as Kenya tend to grow if proper attention is given to Small and Medium Scale Enterprises. SMES Excellence Awards were initiated to recognize and appreciate individuals or/and teams for outstanding accomplishments that have had a significant impact on the economy. The SME Excellence awards also honor firms that demonstrate an exceptional commitment and dedication to upskilling the workforce, enhancing talent, and preparing new and incumbent employees for a successful career in the industry.
These awards honor innovators who demonstrate an exceptional commitment and dedication to upskilling the workforce, enhancing talent, and preparing new and incumbent employees for successful careers in the manufacturing industry. Specifically, this award honors entrepreneurs and businesses who implement best practices for reducing the skills gap and building a high-performance workforce.

CEO/MD OF THE YEAR
- Percentage growth of the topline (revenue)
- Business expansion in the year under review (locations, products/services
- Percentage growth in profitability in the year under review
- ROI of key innovation initiatives in the year under review
- ESG (contributions to making the planet a better place to live)
NOT-FOR-PROFIT/ SOCIAL ENTERPRISES CEO/MD OF THE YEAR
- Percentage of donor retention
- Percentage achievement of new donor funds attraction
- Percentage of projects completed
- Impact of donor projects on communities served
- Compliance to donor/government regulations
MANAGER OF THE YEAR
- Cost management (Adherence to approved budgets)
- People growth (percentage of team members achieving targets)
- Quality of reports
- Performance in three other industry-specific KPIs
- ROI of key initiatives rolled out in the year under review
- Other categories will be determined as per the panel of judges’ criteria which shall be reviewed yearly ceteris paribus

SMES Excellence Awards
SMEs may be overlooked by mainstream business awards for recognition despite their often innovative and creative achievements and their power to truly disrupt the economy. The United SMEs Association of Kenya understands the significance of this sector of businesses and each year hosts SME awards aimed at specific regions or industries looking to showcase some of the key players for doing great things. We celebrate the success stories of SMEs who trade in Kenya.
